Replaced the stock distributor dual point set up on my 76 this weekend with the Compu-Tronics distributorless ignition system from Allison Automotive. I was a little hesitant mainly due to the cost. I called and talked to Mark. All my questions were answered and Mark never tried to sell me. He just gave me the information I needed to make a decision. My final question to Mark was "does this system really make the kind of difference to justify the expense." His answer was "Jim, this is a tremendous improvement over the stock system". I bit the bullet and did the deed.
The box arrived Saturday morning. Talk about quality! The trigger unit is like a piece of jewelry. Easy to install. The coil pack mounts perfectly to the original coil mount studs. Covered harness is long enough to run under the intake manifold and around the back of the motor. Set up was simple. Timing is a piece of cake. My tach even smoothed out. For me worth every dime. Another huge benefit? Really cleans up the engine compartment being able to get rid of the original distributor and cap sticking up like a flag pole. Throttle response is scary. Better be ready to hit 2nd when launching cuz 1st doesn't last very long.
My friend and colleague Don (DocGraphics) will be posting a few pictures for me.

Re: Pointless!
So with this system, you get rid of the distributor completely? I am seriously thinking about this, (after breaking my wrong size replacement cap that I must have misordered for my car...)
Re: Pointless!
yes, no more distributor. The trigger unit replaces the distributor. Maintenance free once it's installed and timed
Re: Pointless!
How would the control unit fit with the alternator on the drivers side of the engine?
Re: Pointless!
the control unit fits even with the left side alternator mounted. The dipstick does need to be rotated to a new position
