I would be free to come over this weekend to help you if you would like. It is going to be nice top down weather so a little drive would be nice. If interested PM me.

Thanks a ton for the offer. But I'll be out of town this weekend for business, then the following weekend taking the kids camping. I would love the help sometime. I'll be tinkering around with her tonight for a short time, but won't be able to get all into it until 2 weeks from now. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
Thanks again..

Here's an old pic of my '82 crank pulley. I have to look at it on the car to confirm, but I believe the white/red mark in the middle is the one you line up with the marker that's mounted to the block.
You may need to clean up the mark, and even re-paint it to get it to show up well.
I'm not sure what those other two marks are for.

Re: No power, slow to get up to speed, hills very slow...
Much time has gone by and chased a few problems down. My "new" mechanical fuel pump decided not to work anymore. Got it at Vics, and usually really like that place for parts, but to much dismay, I couldn't find the receipt so I just decided to buy an electronic fuel pump, and I had a whole in the gas line that went from tank to metal line under car. Probably what blew out the mechanical pump, just sucking air and I guess burnt up. Now, new lines, new fuel pump, took dizzy apart again, cleaned and lubed up, replaced the ignition condenser in the dizzy too. After all that, it still won't run right.
It cranks and cranks, then finally starts and I can get it idleing good, even hooked up the timing light and got it aligned with the 10 degree mark, but when you stomp on gas or just try and rev up, it wants to die. It baugs down. If I keep on the gas it will slowly go up but reach it's high mark around 3000 rpms then wants to give up.
I can get it to run around the block, but if I step on the gas to get it going, it wants to die. If I shut it off then try and start it right away, it just won't start. Cranks and cranks, but nothing.
Aaaaa, it's driving me crazy. Any suggestions?? I'm guessing I'm going to have to take the timing cover off, which means taking off the T hose for the radiator, yet again. THere's nothing left of that dang gasket after all the times I've taken the cover off. Too bad the 72 doesn't have the teeth markings for timing on the engine, just has it on the cover. So, I'll take it all apart again, line everything up, yet again, or so I thought, put it all back together, yet again and start all over with timing.
Any other suggestions??

Have you checked your valve timing yet?
The one time I had the symptoms you describe at the beginning of this thread it was after a mechanic changed the head gasket on my car. It had no power and would really struggle under load, as in going uphill. I got it home and checked everything over and he had the valve timing waaay off. I set the cams correctly and it was once again a screamin' demon.

It might be running lean. Maybe a vacuum leak.

I would revisit the carburator. It sounds as if it is starving for fuel.
