Advance springs are nice, and would decrease your power if they were stuck, but not near as dramaticly as what you are describing.
Vacuum advance has nothing to do with power.
Tis very easy to get cams out of time, or, as was mentioned, pulleys on wrong cam. Double, triple check cam timing.

I've numbered the statements above 'cuz I;d like to agree and comment.
1. I agree completely. 124Joe has something of a fetish for these, so he has obviously seen some fail... and he loves to tell us that he replaces them with chevy ones... which I still think is like swapping-over a crank from an old iron-duke: "just 'cuz it fits don't mean it's correct".

2. Keith, this is misleading. it has everything to do with power, and where it's made. But in this context you're correct. I just hate to see folks being mislead when they do a search for "vacuum advance" and find this post or others like it.

3. I agree with this, but his earlier posts state that he didn't remove the cams or their pulleys, so he shouldn't have the pulleys wrong. but they sure could be outta time. A compression test would tell us some stuff.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

" car cruises great but no power " :

1/ handbrake off ? ( stupid one but couldn't resist  )
2/ sure throttle cable adjusted ? pedal in = ?= full throttle ?

hope you find the solution, Geert.

Well, we went over that vacuum advance bit a year or so ago, so don't get me started again, but I stand by my statement :)
