Has anyone experimented or have info regarding a belt driven oil pump as seen on dry sump oiling systems? I have two spiders and know that at least in the case of the Alfa 2 L. a disastrous oil pump failure is usually an immediate engine failure. Don't know fully the difficulty of this modification, but it only makes sense that if F1, Nascar, and other high level race equipment can live at high revs with them it may be worth a look.

A dry sump is very doable for the spider and the only one that I have seen is one that Guy Croft supplies. Check out his web site. That being said, the fiat pump is very durable and not prone to failure, event in high rpm racing conditions. A more cost effective solution is to use an acusump and/ or modified oil pan to keep the oil pick up covered during high G corners.

They are not commonly done, as it costs $2-3000 to do it properly. They are used in race cars, as extreme cornering forces make it nearly impossible to keep to oil by the oil pump pickup. Total overkill for a street car.
