Carbureted fan in a FI Spider. Probably replaced years ago; they all interchange and put the fan in different positions, low, high, left, right...but oddly never in the middle!
I am confused because there is only one mounting position for the fan in my car. Are there multiple mounting holes for the fan bracket on the FIAT stock radiator? I probably have an after market radiator in mine, I suppose.

No they made two or three different fans. They all look the same (same yellow fan in that metal housing) but the position was different. The FI one sat over somewhat to one side (I don't remember which). Yours looks like it came from an earlier motor, before the engine and its ancillaries grew to the point that it was almost touching the radiator.

Got it. Thanks for the explanation. I will eventually pull the fan to paint it, and will make 3 permanent brackets to mount it properly, i.e. no sensor interference. The radiator itself can't go any lower or it will interfere with sway bar.

Cars like my 81 have a fan shroud with a cutout for the temp sensor, and it is still a tight fit. There is a retainer (you can't see) that keeps the wire from going any closer to the fan.

Mine has the wire retainer that routes the wire up over the top, well away from the fan blades. The cutout is a good idea, but mine interferes so much in the standard position that with the cutout, the sensor would still hit the blades. I need to move the fan.

I cleaned out the throttle plate air bypass idle screw and it idles a lot better now. Does anyone know what the correct size for the o-ring is? Or who has them? I got a 10mm at AAP, but it is just a little too large. The one I have is ok, but is worn (or shrunk) to the point that it just barely keeps the screw from moving on its own.

Our Ace has a display rack with Vitron O-rings, bring your old one over and size it up. I also find that the Vitron O-Ring kit in the 'HELP!' section of Auto Zone has one or two that will fit. It is not a calibrated device like some Bosch o-rings, it just needs to fit snugly and allow adjustment.
