i used a 1 inch spacer its 22mm
the studs on my intake will allow 30mm
but nobody had one that tall
i would have bought a 30mm spacer if i could
or thicker gaskets

but its too late now.im not taking it off for a whille
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

So is adding spacers under the carb one of the standard performance upgrades for the 1995cc engine? I'm new to this car and I'm trying to do everything I can to make it better. This one seems like a cheap add-on. What can I expect from my car's performance if I add one?

I imagine the change from stacking spacers would be similar to what you would expect from swapping to a a high-rise manifold. Longer inlet tract, better atomization, more torque down low. At least that's what it does on v-8's....

Thanks. I should have been clear that I am not the original poster, so I am not looking at stacking spacers. Instead, I'm high-jacking the thread for my own nefarious purposes. I just didn't realize I could gain performance on my spider with any kind of spacer under the carb. For any of you who have done it, what gains have you realized? Is bigger always better when it comes to spacers?

on my 78 it had a 32/32 adfa carb it ran well and the butterflys are in the spacer of sorts leaving no room for one
the 32/36 needed a spacer as the butterflys are in the ventury,and the base is 10mm thick
compared to the 32/32 and the 28/32 30mm thick base

yes it can be played with but theres things to watch for"hood clearance and such"

On a 36ADL We use a 3/4" aluminum spacer with double 1/8" phelonic gaskets in between (one in between the spacer and the manifold and one in between the spacer and the carb). This was done to create enough room for the throttle plates to open all the way. So they will fit under the hood of the Spider 2000 with a huge Weber downdraft and a foam half moon filter.

However, however....you're not going to get back the time you spent stacking spacers in search of a performance increase. The limitation isn't "down there" and you're just likely to create air leaks unless you have something hard (like aluminum) in between them.

Poor man's performance increase: Spend $4 on a piece of pipe, remove the cat, bang the insides out of it, reinstall the now hollow tube, and gain about 7 HP. Spend another $150 on a 1800 or 1592 head and replace your s2k head with that and gain little compression.

Middle man's performance increase: Do as above plus Spend $500 on a Weber 34ADF and $125 on a good 1800 manifold. Rocketship. If you can find a 36ADL you'll do even better - you might even break U-Joints, which is kind of fun.

Rich man's performance increase: Pistons, cams, and IDFs or Fuel Injection.
