House on top of FI throttle body leaking coolant?
House on top of FI throttle body leaking coolant?
Just started my car as many of you know. It's been at least six years since it started from what I hear from the PO. It runs, but now coolant is leaking from the house on top of the throttle body. I just tightened the nuts slightly with a 1/4" drive. Could it be a gasket? I did just bypass my heater core. There are no kinks. I didn't notice if it was leaking on Tuesday when I tried to start it. It was over heating, but I did not burp it properly and one of the heat sensor wires was disconnected from the bottom of the manifold.

I'd be guessing it would be the gasket. Likely going to have to replace it if tightening does not do it and re-burp the coolant system again. Drain the system from the rad so the heater thing is clear of coolant.

The heater thing? LOL. You use the same technical language that I do! Ha ha. Will start it up again with the tightened nuts and see what happens. If not, I'll look up a new gasket.

mine is an 80 fi and that coolant tank is a soldered brass affair that leaks at the seam. Since im in Arizona and dont need to worrry about pre-heating the throttle body, i just took mine off.

I'm in New England. Someone had mentioned bypassing it. I think my nut tightening worked. But I may order a gasket with my next parts order. Thanks guys! How hot should this engine get idling. I didn't want to keep going. It had past 190 when I shut it off.

190 wouldnt be unusual. I would get worried if i was seeing 210 and the fan wasnt kicking on. At 190, your thermostadt would just be opening.

Oh it would just be opening? I felt the bottom hose and it was hot, so it must have opened. When should my fan kick on?
