Oil Pan Guard bolts PICS UPDATED

Post by 4uall »

Does anybody know what size bolts to use for a 1980 FI oil pan guard? I believe it is the original (will take picture after work). I just do not want this to happen again

Should be 6mm x 20mm hex head set screws (bolts without nuts and thread all the way up to the head) and your subframe and crossmember will be tapped for them. Not sure about accross the front though. Depends if the air dam / front spoiler is still there. Remember to fit plain washers plus spring washers.

They will be standard 6mm (coarse thread) not metric fine.

Just had a look at your flickr pics and will say that I hope you are not climbing under "Fiona" while she is just up on stands like that ? I would never thrust those things especially if you are working / pulling and heaving on things.
Go to your lumber yard and buy some cheap 2x8s or 2x10s, cut them into pieces say 18" long and stack them up 3 or 4 high under the wheels. If you tell them you only need "shorts" they might sell you some downgrades cheaper ? better still, buy a 2nd set of ramps and slide them under the rear wheels.
That way if a stand fails, YOU LIVE ! There is no room under a spider on the deck.

no worries, I have solid steel jacks and the jacking points on Fiona are solid. I also have new ramps that will hold an SUV. As a precaution I will slide some tires/rims underneath at times. I really have yet to do any banging or pulling etc

Have you offered the pan up to the underside of your spider to see if it fits ?
I hate to be the one to say it, but I suspect that it will not. It looks to be a pan off either a 124 Coupe or possibly a 124 sedan (pushrod motor) ? It looks so similar to the Coupe one I have, that does not fit to my spider. The very front mounting is different, thus my sugestion of the saloon possibility. I'll have to read up on how to post pics and may be able to attach pic of coupe pan.
