How old are the leads? I've had similar issues in the past and found two different problems. One was a cracked plug arcing to the head and the other was the plug lead had rubbed thin against the hood and was arcing there. I found this out when the lights were out in the shop and could see the arcing better.
Hope its an easy fix

Frustrating, eh? Check all coil wire connections and make sure your battery is fully charged. It has to turn the engine over and provide all of the spark - meaning it has to be strong. Good luck with it.

We'll assume the compression is good (valve timing correct) that leaves the two basics necessary for an engine to run; fuel and spark.
You've got fuel, so it sounds like the problem is spark. The spark has to happen at the right moment, so have you checked the ignition timing? With the non running engine you'd have to do it by #4 TDC, compression stroke, and the rotor pointing to #4 spark plug terminal in the dist. cap. Once the engine is running you can zero in on optimal timing.
Did you do anything with the coil?

Always go back to the basics: verify that the cam and ignition timing is correct.

test the coil to see if its getting 12 volts
if not check to see if the ING is sending 12 volts to it
if yes then try a different coil
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

I'm reaching here..but does the flap in the afm open and close real easy? I'm thinking aloud here that just perhaps the flap is sticking and not enough air is getting through. How about the fuel pressue reg? Do you have a way to check the fuel pressure?

How is your temperature sensor on the coolant tee? If it is getting a bad connection it can cause it to run rich.
