Bumper question

Post by dfuehrer »

Are the bumper shocks reusable once they have been compressed? The passenger side shock on the rear of my car is pushed in, while the driver's side (I assume) is in the correct position. It would be sweet if all I had to do was simply pull it back out to the correct position.

Thanks!

You should be able to pull it out. If you can't, I have a pair in good shape I can sell you.

Another option used by some late model owners would be to tuck your bumpers closer to the car body, by piercing and compressing the shocks, draining the fluid, and setting the shock at that closer distance with a set screw run through inner and outer tubes. Do a search for bumper tuck. Of course, this makes the whole 5 mph bumper thing useless.... but it looks nice.

Joe
I was reading this old post. How did you pull it out to the correct position? Did you have to remove it?
Thanks,
Victor

im not a big guy but my friend was and we grabed the tubes and pulled it out
it stops when all the way out under a manual pull
if you use a comealong be carefull stop at the end
or you might bend the bumper

fortunately, didn't have to try it ;

but I imagine using some wood and a car crick used vertically, it might work, even for the odd non - olympic-champion Fiat user.

good luck, Geert.
