Thoughts on FI cleaners RESOLVED THANKS :-p

Post by 4uall »

Was curious to know what fuel injector cleaners any of you may have used. Fiona has no issues starting and runs well just looking to clean her a little.

I've had good luck with STP, Seafoam and others. They help desolve and clean while the car sits.

I have seen actual results using the Lucas f.i. cleaner, albeit on my wifes van and not the the Fiat. She was having some surging issues and poor fuel economy.I ran the Lucas in a couple tanks of gas.The mileage is back to where it should be,and the surging is gone.I run the Lucas in the Spider 2-3 times a year.

This is too funny. I actually put Seafoam in when I did my oil change and first fill up of the season. Look what I just bought

+1 for Techron. Used it in my dads 98 VW golf and seems to help. Will be putting a bottle in my spider soon. Around here, advance auto has 2 for 1 price deal sometimes.

Unless you really have a good reason for putting something other than gas in your tank, I would not. The Techron products do a good job helping to clean injectors. Most of the other products are snake oils.

When I bought my FI spider, it had been sitting round for a couple of years as was supposedly owned by seller's son who was overseas ??? Anyway, thought I'd be smart and put in STP injector cleaner and I SUSPECT that started years of problems with tank leaks and injector problems, intermittant missing (down to injectors), inability to start (ditto?) blocked fuel filter etc.
I suspect that all it did was loosen up the crud and varnish /fuel residues/tars in the tank . I've had to replace tank, filter, injectors and some of the fuel lines.

These products are made to sell to people, not for any actual usage qualities. If it ain't broke, don't fix it !!!

After putting this in, Fiona seems smoother, and better throttle response after a few tanks
Thanks for the input I may try the Techron next time

do most people in the states use premium 98 fuel in their spiders? I mostly (like 99% of the time) us premium fuel and have noticed that it does keep the engine clean, when I have taken of the head there had been no carbon present at all.
Down in Aus we have a higher sulfar contact and our fuel isn't as good as european fuel. My spider seems to like PB, even over Shell despite the Ferrari connection...
