exhaust smoke
exhaust smoke
When I put the car to bed last fall there appeared to be no engine problems. When I awakened it from its long sleep it started fine (yay!) After a proper warmup I wound it out a bit and was rewarded with an impressive cloud of light blue smoke from the exhaust. I had all of the easily unboltable pieces off this winter for polishing and painting, and made sure to take pictures when I took it apart so it could go back together properly again, It seems to be rather gutless but makes no scary noises, save for a 2 minute period after a 15 minute freeway drive when it made a racket like something hitting a pulley. When I restarted later, the noise was gone. No smoke on idiling or on gentle acceleration, just when I jump on the gas and wind it out. No compression test yet. Ideas?
Re: exhaust smoke
is it carbed or FI? How's the oil level? If it's overfull you will get oil pumped into the air filter at high rpm
Re: exhaust smoke
Thanks for the reply Mark. It's an '82 FI, and I'm heading outside right now to check the oil level...........OK. You called it! About a quart over. Gonna drain it down and get a new air filter. Thanks a bunch. Ed
