Mileage estimate

Post by nathnn99 »

As I am a relatively new owner of a 1975 Spider, I am trying to do some research and find out more about my new found obsession. The car is in nearly perfect running condition. No leaks, no rust, new top. Anywho..... My question is this... What can I expect for MPGfor a car driven in the city and on the highway? Also, How far can my Spider go, (Or should I go in my spider) before needing to refuel? Any imput would be appreciated!!

I have a 78 with stock carb and get 27 if I drive easy like. 22 if my foot is in it some of the time. Just depends on how you drive.

My 1980 FI 2000 holds 43L and goes anywhere from 250-300 km (11.36 gallons = 155.34 -186.41 miles)

When my commute involved more highway driving I was able to squeak 25 MPG put of my '75 Spider cruising at an average of 65 MPH.
Since changing jobs, my new commute covers mostly winding two lane country roads with plenty of opportunities to drop a gear and mash the throttle. The result has been a drop in mileage down to about 23 MPG at an average speed of about 60 MPH.

I think the fuel tanks were 10 imperial gallons or about 45 liters (11.8 us gal) I fill up when I have gone around 350kms and seem to average 29-34 Liters to top the car back up. I have changed the cams and the car has more power now and when the weather gets a bit better, will be putting more time in the spider to see where the milage is now. About 28-30 miles to the imperial gallon to date.

It varies a lot based upon driving style and condition, but mid - 20's mpg is a reasonable estimated average.
