Cold Start

Post by henry »

I started my car today (1600 carb) and without heating it up properly I started riding 5 min later it just stopped, I tried the ignition a couple times using the choke but no luck rested it a while it started but when off again, that repeated a couple more times, finally I let it rest again for a good while, It started but it was at high revs this time and after a few seconds it she out again! So I'm waiting until the morning to started again to see what happen............ Any suggestions?

Thank You.

Start with the basics. After it dies can you see fuel being pumped into the carb. Do you have spark etc. Need more info

Michael,

Thank you for your help, I can see there is gas in the gas filter. I do have spark also.

When it stalls, raise the hood and pump the carb by hand to see if fuel squirts into the venturi. (If yes, measns there is fuel in the fuel bowl; If no means fuel is not getting into the carb) Next check idle solenoid (usually on side of carb facing the fender with a wire coming from it. When you turn the key to start, you should here it click (search the forum for idle solenoid - there are better descriptions of its operation than I am giving)

When was the last time you did/had a carb rebuild? Does it run if you crank it and mannually dribble fuel into the carb?
When was the last time fuel filter was changed? How fresh is the gas?

Check the grounds for the coil and genereal wiring. clean all connections and reassemble.
The more info you give us the better we are ale to assist.

i did the same thing"rebuild"and it didnt fix it
i had a short and a faulty ground
the short was at the dizzy the wires were bare,so i taped them and used a heat resistant shield over that
and the batt had a loose connection after awhile it just stoped turning over,my bro pulled the neg cable and it came out of the connection

that was 4 months of DUH
then i joined FS.COM and learned more, alot more
thanks guys
