Re: Newbie in Texas
Welcome!
My spider is a 1984 as well.
The pictures you have look considerably better than ours
looked when she first came home. I couldn't photograph
her in that condition-would have been like taking pictures
of a corpse. Since then, alot of affection and care has gone
a long way with ours. Patience served us all well.
I have not had too much trouble finding parts; the biggest
issues so far have been finding a mechanic willing and able
to do the work within convenient distance and finding parts
suppliers who know which parts we need. We've had to do
a couple orders two and three times to get the right part.
Could just be the suppliers we're contacting. The mechanic
we have currently seems to really know his stuff, just takes
his time. Patience, like I said, has served us all well.

Re: Newbie in Texas
right you are Denise.
Worth, as i always say, is a relative thing. How much are you willing to throw into the project to get a respectable car on the road? which means you have to define what you interpret as respectable. no matter what, entry price is not project total cost....meaning, you are gonna have to throw some money at the car as soon as you buy it.
just thoughts to keep in mind as you negotiate prices. I am willing to be this guy doesn't have several offers on the table.
brakes...timing belt...donut...exhaust...welding the door hinges...paint job...body work... it all adds up. Throw him a lowball first, and see what he responds with.

Re: Newbie in Texas
Thanks for the advice mbouse. I called the seller and he is selling it for his mom who is going through a divorce. Says he doesn't know much about the car other than it runs and drives and hasn't been registered since 2001. Been there on the side of the road for "a couple weeks" I think longer. I'm gonna wait a little bit b4 I talk to him again.
Re: Newbie in Texas
Do you know what varnished gasoline smells like? not running since 2001 will guaruntee varnished gas throughout the system. that repair will take a full day by itself...tell the seller. Invite him to smell the varnish in the tank.
not running for nearly seven years is not good on the engine, or the resale value.
if you buy, be sure you research the proper procedures for bringing this engine back to life.

Re: Newbie in Texas
The car has been running since 01 just not registered. At least that is what I'm told.
Re: Newbie in Texas
right! still suggest you give the gas a sniff for varnish.....bet it is 8 years old.
