I did put a whole unit in when I replaced the pillow block, bearing and rubber. It was the rubber that was bad when I did it. They both have been checked and are in good condition.
The tranny mount is tight.
I've double checked the guibo, it looks fine.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I'm still scratching my head.
Lee; Actually that joke had occured to me too and I've thought about skipping 2nd gear, but 2nd gear went out of my car which led to me replacing the tranny. I have 2nd gear now, and by God, I'm gonna use it!

No, I've done a close examination of the whole length of the drive train and everything looks good.
BTW, did "biffed" come from the name of the bully, "Biff", in Back To The Future?

Re: Whole lotta shakin' goin on
I guess it is a local expression, know in New England since I was a kid many decades ago. Not sure what the origin is! But it means "impacted hard enough so as to cause damage, possibly visible" <{:^)

Re: Whole lotta shakin' goin on...SOLVED
Found it.
The bolt on the tranny to exhaust down pipe strap had come out on the exhaust pipe side. 124Joe had suggested I check the tranny mount, and I had, but I never thought of the strap being part of the tranny mount. I always thought it was to keep the exhaust manifold from moving too much. I put a new bolt in and it solved two problems. For a while now I've had clutch chattering taking off in 1st which I put down as neglecting have the flywheel resurfaced when I did my tranny/clutch job. Seems like both problems are gone. I tried to duplicate both symptoms on some test driving and neither one showed up.
Whew. That was frustrating.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Whole lotta shakin' goin on
Update:
I found the problem. I put the car up on stands, ran it in 2nd and watched the driveline. I noticed it turning out of round at the front u-joint, so I checked it out and sure enough, even though it was not sloppy, it had shifted in the yoke slightly. I got replacements at (don't read this Craig) Autozone and installed them. Still had vibration, though it was significantly reduced. So I bit the bullet and took the driveline to the driveline shop with the best rep around here and he took one look at it and said he sees these Autozone u-joints fail all the time. He said watch this, and smacked the yoke with a hammer. A keeper popped out and the u-joint flew apart. I hadn't even told him where I got them! I had him put his good ones on and check it for true and balance. When I picked it up he said he didn't need to do anything with the balance, it was good.
Raced home and put the driveline back in and took it for a test drive.
SWEET! It's driving as smooth as silk again. What with the new muffler I just put on because my original had separated from the tail pipe, my car is driving and sounding like new again.
WooHoo!

That's good info! Glad it got resolved, and it is really good that people follow up on problems so we can all learn from it.

Re: Whole lotta shakin' goin on
Yes, thanks for the post Ron. Happens mine is up on stands and I might do just what you did and have a look. I did rotate the driveline 180 deg and tried that. significant improvement over the "buz" in the driveline but not all together gone.
