Best all around shop manual?

I lost my old Chilton's (or was it that other brand who's name escapes me?). I'm looking for another good, all around, comprehensive "repair" manual. I don't really mean the one a bone fide tech would use in a professional shop, just something I can use in my garage without getting in too much trouble. What's the consensus on which is best...or at least good?

I have that one and it is a good start. Most people recommend that you get a few of them, as each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

That looks like the one I had. No publisher's/writer's name on it, though?

That is a Brooklands Book. It deserves a better rating than Amazon gives it.

Another one is by Haynes.


Shop manuals are more complete - I always go there for torque settings. Brooklands looks like it was based off the shop manual with some areas lightened and others fleshed out.

This is the manual I decided on. I'm brand new to Fiat Spiders and its the only manual I have so far. Tried to look for a Haynes, but they only seem to cover till 1978? Mine is 1980 FI...

+1 for shop manual. Haynes has torque spec inaccuracies.

Agree the Shop Manual is the way to go. 300 to 400 pages, very detailed, and pretty much step by step of anything you do on the car. Most vendors carry them and well worth the money spent for them. They don't contain the wiring diagrams, but most of them can be obtained on line.
