fuel injectors

Post by smallpiece »

Hi, My spider 2000 has been garaged for a few years, I am unable to start her I have a good spark at the plugs. I have changed the hoses around the pump I have fuel coming to the fuel rail, I have one wet and three dry plugs so maybe my injectors are gummed up. Any one have a method of cleaning them? or is it replacement

will post in new member section tomorrow with pics.....

These two services will clean them. I haven't personally used the service but it has been discussed on this forum at some length, and the web sites have plenty of info.

Yeup, try and find a place that will clean them I have had mine done by a fellow that mostly works on diesel injectors. Perhaps a truck repair place might have the equipment to do them Cost here was $25.00 each and that included swapping out the small internal filter and a flow test and print-out.

Thanks for that info, witchunter do not ship outside the States, but okinjectors will send worldwide: I will post the results
25 Bucks per item seems ok,with shipping it would cost me 155 bucks for 4 injectors. I found this on you tube which may be of interest.

Hi All,
before i took out the injectors i thought i would try a fix that i saw in a previous post, that was to pass 12v across the injectors 2 of them were stuck, she is now idling quite nicely. Now to fix the reason i garaged her in the first place, :?

how did you go about running 12v through the injectors? cause i'm pretty sure mine are clogged up as well.

and did you remove all of them when running the current?

and spray into a can.

Hi Antic,

No i looked at how much work was involved in taking out the injectors, and thought i would try it in situ first, I just set up a lead from a battery with a injector electrical connection fitted and just a rudimentary switch, the car has only done 20km since i garaged it so many years ago, so mine were stuck more than gunge, Then i put some additive in with the petrol.
I believe it is possible to use a cleaner by setting up a hose to feed via the fuel Rail...but not something i have tried
What symptoms do you have to make you feel you have a injector problem?

You can purchase the connector with a pigtai at any NAPA etc. Carquest # S-697. This will give you two nice leads, just hook power and ground. You should herer inj click open. If no click try tapping injector. If you have ohm meter check across two terminals at injectors, not sure what you will get but they will all be about same. With injectors out, hook up new test connector and open injector, now you can spray carb cleaner thru inj both ways. (EYE PROTECTION-- FIRE EXTINGUISHER). Injedctors not designed to have current running thru them for long period of time, so limit amount of "on" time.
You can also arrange a seperate fuel supply and feed inj rail that way with inj cleaner, but that is another story.
Keith
PS might try pissing a little fuel in each cylinder while plugs out, install plugs, see if it starts. Then you know ignition/compression/cam timing etc OK and can chase fuel issues.

she's was sitting for 5 years, and i have fuel going into the fuel rail, just installed a new fuel pump ( tested and works), cleaned out all the lines, and today i pulled out the #1 injector slightly, just to see if there was any fuel running through it, and nothing came out..

Was the engine running or cranking when you checked the injector? They're solenoid activated, and need voltage to open and spray fuel. They get constant power, and when the ground gets "made" by the ECU (in pulses) the circuit is complete and they squirt. You need to check that they're pulsing, a noid light is best for this. If you have fuel, and they're pulsing but not spraying, then they need cleaning.
I've heard of tapping the body will sometimes loosen up the gunk and get them working. Also rigging up a 12V power source with a momentary switch and "pulse" them by hand can sometimes do it. Don't let the 12V stay on long though, you'll burn up the solenoid.
Best option; send them out for cleaning.

Hello,
I just received my injectors, fuel rail and cold start injector back from okinjectors and he did a great job.
Installed everything back on the car and it is running great!! I finally have a nice smooth idle. He sent along a set of seals also but they were a little bigger than the ones I got from Auto Ricambi so I did not use them. Went the auto ricambi ones. I did have to shave a little of the larger seals to get them to go in.
Okinjectors did the whole job for 183.00. Which inlcuded hoses and checking the fuel pressure regulator. He shined up the fuel rail and lacquered it.
