Hey guys, got an easy one I hope.
I own a 79 with a 32 ADFA carb and single plane intake (from exactly what year I don't know). The PO had the water choke removed and the tube from the heater hose blocked off (with the original ADHA carb). I have the new carb installed and am having difficulty getting the engine to start. I am thinking it is because the choke flap won't open when needed without the choke hooked up.
Anyway, enough of my guessing! I have the choke supply hose just waiting to be unplugged and used, but I don't have the water jacket nipple on the end of my intake manifold next to the firewall to run the second hose from the water choke. I suppose this returns the water to the car's coolant system. Is it possible to run the second (return) hose from the water choke to somewhere else (maybe the coolant resevoir)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James
Water Choke Tube Routing
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
running it to the reservoir won't work, it'll have to return to the motor. You could either tee into the other heater hose or get the upper water outlet from an FI car. They had a nipple for a small hose that was used for the throttle body heater
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
so what's where that nipple ought to be at the end of the manifold? Did you hang onto your dual plane manifold, it has the nipple, and you could (maybe) get it onto the new manifold? I dunno...
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
Actually, I have 2 single plane manifolds. bought one to put on my car, but then realized it already had single plane on it, so I didn't have to swap. Is the nipple part of the manifold, or is it on the block? Neither of my manifolds have the nipple.
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
nipple should be in the manifold. Why not convert if to an electric choke, a much better idea rather than putting water into a carburetor
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
Can that be done? I guess so if you said it. I love that idea. What does that involve? Where do you buy an electric choke seperate from the carb?
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
any vendor that is a Weber dealer should have them. All you should need would be the choke cover, then run a hot wire to it. Try Pierce Manifolds
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
here are a couple of pictures of my manifold single plane manifold from an 1800...
Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
Yep, that's it, except the water choke nipple that is shown on the right of each of those pictures is not on either of my manifolds. I think I will either investigate adding the electric choke or tying into a heater hose that Mark suggested.
This project is sslloowwllyy coming together. Maybe someday I can have something to actually drive and brag about.

Re: Water Choke Tube Routing
I believe the manifolds that originally had manual choke carbs weren't set up with the nipple into the water jacket. I've never paid attention to those cyl heads to see if they had the water jackets in them
