Dropped DMSA Parts.... Augh!

Post by Dougieb »

Well, I did it. I cracked open my 34DMSA carb to freshen it up before I put it on the car. I had the top open and sprayed it with some carb cleaner just to get the nasty gunk off before I soaked it in cleaner. I turned it over and heard something hit the ground. After I got over the urge to cry, I found the little brass nipple in the grass (it is the one I put in the "B" position in the pic).

Questions:

1) Since the one in position "A" was still there, did I put the one that fell in the correct hole "B"? It would NOT fit in "C" at all. "A" and "B" are the main side and "C" and "D" are the secondary side.

2) Are there supposed to be any on the secondary side? I tried to blow through the secondary side with carb cleaner but those two holes are completely plugged up. This would lead me to believe it was not supposed to be there. (But who am I to argue with a nearly 40 year old carb?)

3) How to I seat this nipple back in. (when I figure out which hole it goes in) Does it just loosely fit in the hole? Or.... do I put a dab or JBweld and tap it in with a piece of wood. Any suggestions?

I am dieing to put this carb in my car and want to know if I didn't mess things up too terribly! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,

No spring. On the top half of the carb (in the pic) the nipples just fit into the hole and they "seat" in.
The holes neck down and the nipple just stops there.
The nipples just fit into the according holes in the lower half of the carb.
If there were springs there, the PO gook them out. (or maybe I missed in the grass) (Augh!!!!!!)

There are no springs under those so no worries. If the holes on the other side are blind, I would assume it goes in the hole you have choosen. Just tap it back in lightly, no sealer needed.

Ahhhhhhhhh!

Thank you all!

Now I can put it back together and see how it runs.
I just got the last plugs today for the EGR, thermosensor, and one more that I don't know what the heck it does.
On goes the intake manifold.... and the the carb!

Thanks again for letting me know I didn't totally mess it up.
I don't know if it was fate but I could not believe that I found that tiny, brass nipple in the grass!
ha ha

She will live yet!
