I have the official Fiat shop manual that has been a great help in the work I have been doing on my Spider which is an 1984. One of the things that is not so great are the photos, which in many cases are impossible to understand due to darkness. There is also the Haynes Repair Manual, but Haynes says the manual only covers up through 1978.
So I am curious if the Haynes manual is worthwhile to purchase as the owner of a later year Spider?
Haynes manual worthwhile for later year models?

I think the Haynes manual is a very good resource. The things people don't trust are the torque data, which you have nicely documented in the factory manual.
The Spider didn't change much mechanically over the years and the Haynes manual doesn't assume you are a professional mechanic. Its a good resource. I personally have Haynes, Clymer, Autobooks and the factory manuals for my Fiats. They all have different clues to the answers to our Fiat problems. They are a small investment and can help you ensure that as you step through a procedure you don't muck up something else.
I like the Haynes manuals myself and have found them very useful. They are readable (once you understand what a suitable drift and a spanner are) with decent pics and many exploded views.
