Hooking Vapor Canister back up...
Hooking Vapor Canister back up...
Just got a new fuel vapor canister from ebay. I noticed my old one had 3 ports to it and this one only has 2. The bottom port hooks to the vent line but how about the top small port, do I attach a breather filter to it since theres no place to hook the line up on the 32/36 DFEV carb or do I just cap it with a vaccum cap? What have you guys done? THX.
Re: Hooking Vapor Canister back up...
This is the way I've been running it. I ran a hose from the carbs vaccum port to a "Y" vacuum connector. One hose splits off to the top of the canister and the the other to the distributor advance port. Here's a drawing of what I did. Is that ok?

i dont know much on this but
it was said to leave the top one open for your vent
and adding it to the vac port is like a air leak and throws off your settings

when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

I too am unsure what to do with the vapor canister. I was told to leave it connected in a picture I posted about the smog junk, and the top plug looks like something may have been connected at some time, but i could only find (i think) the same hose the OP posted the drawing of.
Re: Hooking Vapor Canister back up...
With my DFEV I don't connect the canister to the carb at all. My canister has three nipples. Two on the bottom; one at the top. I leave the top one uncapped; connect the tank vent line to one of the bottom nipples; capped the other bottom nipple.

Unless you know for sure what that top port is I would not "Y" it into the same line as the vacuum advance. Fuel vapors will speed the demise of the Vacuum advance diaphram.

I disconnected the Y connector and just let the top of the charcoal canister unplugged. Hooked the dizzy to the port in the carb and went for a drive. Car seems to run better but maybe cause I fixed the hole in the muffler. Glad I asked you guys.

Good news. Can't wait to get mine done and out on the road. Just got the taillights and oil left. And license registration haha.
Anyway, good deal, I'm following that advice. Thanks everyone.
