Fender busted in hit-and-run :(

Post by BartusCompater »

I left my apartment today to find this:

Image Image

I park outside on the street, and I'm guessing that somebody hit it last night and decided to just leave it without a note. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with repairing something like this, and I'm wondering if repairing this myself be incredibly difficult (given the time and the right tools).

I wouldn't do it myself. I have a similar, smaller dent on the driver's side rear quarter panel. I'm going to leave it for a professional. Body work isn't like mechanical work... it's much harder, IMHO.

you are going to use some bondo, but it is very doable. you can get to the back side and have reach with a hammer and dolly. you will need to pull the headlight bucket and will have to be very careful when you work the metal to not oval the bucket hole. the area where the crease is, is very deep and the metal is stretched there. that is the area that will require fill. if you take that all the way out, it will leave a bulge there. If you can get your hands on a port-o-power, you will save some stretching as it will push the panel out without pounding. this will help alot with the final shape.

in the body shop
they have a air hammer the head is tiny about a half inch
"in the right hands" this tool will fix most dents unless under a inner frame
also if streched to oval
cut a slit and weld it back to round
file it down ...
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

Gah! That's terrible. To put so much work into these things and then someone just slams into them without leaving so much as a note. Unfortunately I don't have insurance coverage for this sort of thing. Sure thing I'm going to be getting some once I have it fixed.

The turn signal on my bumper looks fine. It's that driver's side marker light that I'm gonna need a replacement for. Thanks for offering though, I really really appreciate it.
