What is this and do I need it?

The PO removed the smog equipment etc.This line comes from the intake manifold to the cambox cover, the opposite side was not capped off. Can I remove this line and cap the intake? Any guidance would be appreciated.

if smog has been removed
then no you dont need it

most of us would cut it about 4 inches from the intake and roll it up tward the intake
to seal it off

if you can unbolt it
then get a plug in the plumming depot at the store
and plug the hole in the intake

I believe it's a 17mm bolt in the manifold....not sure of the pattern, but it's readily available.

I've got an extra set of cam covers that don't have the emission fittings if you want a smoother look.

How do you totally remove the darn thing? I would rather have a "clean" look on my intake.

The pipe just spins in the fitting (on the intake). It appears to be some old type of "banjo" fitting.
Would an impact with some heat work on it?
Any suggestions?

I took mine off a few years ago and it seems like I had to use an allen wrench or something. I'm not real sure though. CRS and all.

there is an allen-head fitting inside it. you need to remove the outer bolt, then find the correct allen-wrench to fit inside.

Sounds like I just have to use a large flat-head screwdriver to remove the outer bolt. Then deal with the inner allen-head.

I will try that this weekend.

When I got my 1800 intake manifold to upgrade my 2.0 engine,the pipe was missing from the ball. The outer allen plug was seized, so I just used a dremel to split the ball in half and removed the plug that way, then I was able to access the inner allen part easily.

I just took mine off.

Here is the pic of the parts and the tools needed. (the Allen wrench is a 10mm)

The banjo bolt is a 16mm x 1.5 pitch. Not too rare for a bolt but not too uncommon for a oil pan drain plug. Less than $3 at NAPA got me a plug AND washer for it.
