Dual Points: condensers not available!
What is the deal with the condensers on the 1978 Marelli dual point distributor? I have not been able to find replacements at the normal parts outlets. Ebay claims to have replacements, yet I don't know enough about this to be sure I am ordering the correct units. Are the two condensers not identical? How are they different? Which one goes were? Where can I find more information on this topic? Thank you for your help. John B. (1978 124 Spider)

Re: Dual Points: condensers not available!
If I remember correctly, the only difference between the years is the length of the wires. Also, the brackets on the condenser with which to attach it to the dizzy is different for the left and right condenser, since they mirror each other on the dizzy. So there is a left and right condenser.
At least, that's how it works on my 77.

Re: Dual Points: condensers not available!
I ran into this when I replaced my condensor (converted to single point)
It seems to be they are the same w/ different length leads, but didn't notice if the mount changes.
Here's the links to both at autoricambi

The conversion to single point in that distributor is easy & make for easier tuning too.
Here's a link to IAP's tech section explaining how to do it.

Re: Dual Points: condensers not available!
Thanks for the links. We have a bunch in stock, there is not a supply problem that I am aware of.
The only difference between the two is the length of the wires.

Re: Dual Points: condensers not available!
Thank you all! I love this forum!
I inherited this Spider from Dad, who bought it new in '78. I drive it every day the roads aren't snowy. Keeping it running is a challenge, yet I am always learning. The clutch cable failed yesterday, so I started it in 1st gear, and drove home without the clutch. Ran every stop-sign and traffic light. Luckily, I wasn't too far from home. I'm contemplating welding a nob on the end of the cable to get me back on the road until the new one arrives. Any suggestions?

My cable popped out of the pedal a long time ago, I drove the couple blocks home in second. Fun stuff.
I have JB Weld down there now just in the way of reinforcement.
