Fuel consumption with IDFs Vs other

Post by coise »

Hello everybody.
I´m thinking about switching from a 34ADF carb to Dual IDF. Right now I´m using around 10l per 100Km with my 34ADF.
What is the average gas consumption with dual IDFs for a spider 1800cc.
Thanks for any input.

You need to talk in MPG. Very few will know what l/Km. :D

The IDF will give better mileage, but once you have them, you will have a hard time not putting your foot to the floor. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh ya!! So whats the Point.

the problem I see with fuel consumption is once dual idf's are installed, the pedal is mashed quite frequently

I have a 1967 124 with an 1800 in it, 9.8 to 1 pistons, PBS street cams, head flow work, etc. when I ran twin 40's, I averaged under 20 MPG overall. Now that i run a single two barrel 36 DCD-7 weber, I get mid 20's and close to 30 all freeway. In my opinion, the twin 40's suck for a street car. they suck gas, forever need fine tuning to get rid of the flat spot on the transition circuit, and have more of an on/ off throttle response more suited to a race track. And my carbs were brand new and tuned on a Dyno. they also tend to foul plugs, have a float bowl stick if you don't run the car for while and flood the cylinder, always give off a gas smell , etc.

I loved them the few times i ran the car on the track, but the best thing i did to this car was to remove the 40's and put the bigger 36mm single Weber on it. I run a 28mm and 29mm choke, and maybe lost 5 hP over the twin 40's, with better street drive ability.

Well tuned IDFs should be able to deliver 10l/100km, which is around 22mpg, I believe.
I am surprised that is all you get with the 34 ADF. On the country roads and freeway I get 8.5-9 l/100km with a 2 liter and 32/36 carb.

I had 40IDFs on my 2 litre, I consistently got 10.5l/100Kms using it as a daily driver for 2 years. And with the original 124BC air cleaner it sounded gorgeous.

Thanks for all your input. I think my 34 adf is sucking to mush gas because my ignition system is probably not that great neither. It´s good to see that IDFs are not going crazy on gas (depending on driving); I will probably switch soon.
