I've seen this subject come up a few times, but I want to get my facts straight. First of all, the car is a '78 and everything is stock, save for the few wires that have been unplugged from God knows where.
So, what does it take to fully remove all of the emissions equipment from these cars? I no longer need to pass any test for Wisconsin, and I really want to clean up the engine bay and eliminate some hoses and wires.
I just bought some plugs for the air injection ports on the head, but what else needs to be plugged up? And what is the best way to plug these things up?

Re: De-Smog
Won't I have issues if I take all of that off and don't plug any hoses? I'm just wondering what needs to be plugged up and what will be fine on its own.

Hi Mark,So Cal Mark wrote: set the ignition timing to 10btdc
Won't that lead to too much advance at speed?
My reading leads me to conclude the dual point distributors have nominally 36deg of crankshaft advance and 0 btdc is the static setting, while the single point distributors have nominally 26 degrees of advance and call for ~10deg static advance, both arriving at ~36 at speed as the desired value.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: De-Smog: What gets plugged up?
Well, I took all of my emissions stuff off today and the car still purrs. Now I just have to find a way to plug the pipe leading to the intake manifold and the one coming off of the exhaust. Any thoughts on this?
What size pipe threads are those?

the one on the intake is 16 mm straight thread"not tapered
mine was cut about 4" from the intake and bent over a few times
