The 1978 1.8l does not have the cam drive smog pump (runs off a v-belt off crank pulley) so a 78 exhaust cam pulley should work for you

Thanks Don. One more thing to install the wheel , what should I do for the head is on the engine still. Don't want to take head off.

there is no need to remove the head just to replace a cam wheel

I would be interested in trading your double pulley for a single pulley if your interested. I'll even pay you shipping to ship it back.

I'd love to hear how others have held the cam from turning while removing a cam-gear. I've had to be pretty creative.... and I'm not sure I like the solution I'm using.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

OK. I have plenty of cam pullies. I actually have an intake and exhaust cam pulley from a 1438. Someone told me these were better for some odd reason. Alters the cam timing slightly?

I also have a bunch of X 1/9 and Yugo cam pullies. Someone told me these were interchangable with twin cams. I don't know about the timing marks though. I'll have to check.

I once picked up a Spider with the cam pullies reversed. The PO said the engine had 60# of compression yet it still ran, just not very well. Turns out the cam pullies were reversed. The machine shop that did the cylinder head must have forgot the mark them and didn't know which pulley went to which cam and just guessed. He guessed wrong!

I wrapped a used timing belt around each pulley (one at a time) then wrapped the slack around the head of a screwdriver handle several times and had my father hold it while I loosened the cam pulley bolt. Then used the same method to tighten the bolts.

Afterwards the compression jumped from 60# to 120#!!
