Piston alignment

Post by AZ79 »

I've forgotten (!) how my pistons were orientated when I took them out. I have a 2L block.
One side of the con rods say Fiat... Which way should they be put back in... Anyone?

I'm thinking the FIAT mark goes towards the back... the indents on top of the piston align smaller for exhaust valve and larger for intake. Or the other way around, I guess

Well, nevermind today anyway. They sent me the wrong rod bearings.

Just to mention- it was Thursday 11:00 am when I ordered what must have been the last set of standard rod bearings anywhere. I paid 27.00 extra for 2 day shipping. It's 7:50 pm Saturday night, Monday is a holiday, my mail doesn't arrive until 5 or 6 in the evening anyways, and yeah, it looks like Wednesday at best for putting these pistons in.... After thinking I had everything. Glad I could pay that extra $ for shipping!

Correct, the intake valve relief is larger.
The numbers stamped into the conrods which tell which cylinder they are for faces toward the exhaust side.
