What Size Air Cleaner?

Post by Kent124 »

I have a 79 spider with 2L motor, 1800 single plane, Miller's Mule 1" spacer, and DFEV 32/36.

Will a 2.5" lunch box cleaner fit under the hood? My other option is a 1.75", which I already own.

Is there an advantage of the taller cleaner performance wise? Or in reality is it just a noise thing?

it should fit, but I haven't tried a 1" spacer. Put a piece of foam on top of your air cleaner and see if the hood contacts it

Another way to check clearance is to make a loose ball of aluminum foil & place in the area of concern & shut the hood.
It will compress & not spring back to show you how much space is truly there.

I have a 79 with the 32/36, 1800 single with 1" spacer and 2.5" air cleaner. It doesn't contact the hood at all.

I don't think that there is any performance difference between the two other than the sound, and I think the 2.5" looks better.

I think more air is more better, larger filter area can't hurt
