Auxiliary heat. You can omit it.

Hey guys, do I have to do anything to the cable connecting the valve to the control lever? seems like I don't quite have the full range of motion. Don't have it installed yet.

Check the clamp holding the cable stationary. You should be able to get full motion of the valve . I used heat shrink on my cable as the plastic coating was torn . Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the tip Oak, my cable seems to be in pretty good condition, but I guess the screw from the clamp on the old valve doesn't fit the new one? Any chance somebody knows the thread and size on the new valve?

Also I broke part of the box that holds the heater core :x . And guess what? right where one of the clips is suppose to go, any chance someone else has done this? Looks like the boxes still line up pretty good, but there is a little bit of an opening close to the corner.

O, and do I need to burp the system since I removed the core?

Thanks again guys, couldn't do it without ya!

There is no dought that you need to burp the cooling system. This is a good time to install a flushing T in the hose coming out of the core to the head. It makes purging the air out of the system a breeze as the T is now the highest point and you can add from there. There is a much more detailed procedure on this but its pretty much cut and dry.

Any holes in the plastic boxes will allow air to escape to non-beneficial locations, so you should at least seal them with gorilla or racers tape. Many Spiders are out there running around with three clips holding the box together, but if you can provide a replacement securing method (sheet metal screw, bungee, etc.), that's all the better.

I'm about to tackle this job now. Great thread. I just took my plastic box off and covered everything in PB Blast. Luckily my car has no interior so I'm zipping around relatively easily. I am a tall guy with big hands and those nuts look daunting. The bolt on my valve seems to be spinning... and not coming out... I can see the threaded end spinning in circles with no movement...

Pretty annoying that I can't fit my ratchet wrench end on any of them.
