can't find leak, running out of ideas.

Post by garhett »

Hey guys, first post!

So I've had a leak from my driver side door for a while now. I've sat in there and tried removing the panel to find the leak to no avail. it seems to be coming from somewhere at the rear possibly something to do with the where the door meets the top?

I've tried comparing it to the passenger side and the only difference I can see is that the driver side door is sagging just enough to hit the fender when it's opened. Is there any possibility that could be a cause? It's seems adjusting it is fairly simple, but I'm nervous about attempting it. It needs to be done anyways since it's already rubbed the paint off where it catches.

The weather stripping seems pretty shot, but it's pretty much the same condition on the passenger side.

I try and get some pics tomorrow, but I'm not really sure what to photograph anyways so i could use some suggestions there too!

Hi garhett. I'm guessing you must have a pretty nice car if you are down to details like that! I have a leak too. From the hole in my top right above the driver's seat..haha. So many things to fix first that it's a low priority. I bet we'd like to see a general introduction and pics of the car in the new users area. I'm a new user myself.

Haha, ya seems like I lucked out so far :| . So far the engine's running tip top, except for a little valve clearance issue I'm gonna adjust next week. I'm one of those lucky ones who didn't know anything about these cars (much less cars in general) before I bought one. I've never forget the time a lady was walking by and stopped and complimented me on the car. Then she asked if I was a mechanic, I told her no and you should of seen the look on her face, ha!
About the leak tho, If it does elude me for a while, should I start to prepare myself for replacing the carpet and doing a solid de-rusting on the interior?
I'll get on that general intro and get you guys some pics! Welcome to the club yourself Sergeant!

yes get to the rust asap if you have some
check your top hinge on the door side for cracks it may need some welding

after you adjust the door you can adjust the wndow
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

here's some photo's as promised

Seems like this stuff is pretty shot, but after talking to a friend, he just said water can't go UP, so it must be coming from somewhere else

Anything missing or look out of place?

And here's where the door is rubbing on the fender, after i do get it adjusted how do I repair?

Joe, I checked the door, you don't need to remove the panel correct? I know they like to shear right there but i looks OK to me, should be pretty obvious right?

I resized these photo's btw and they still aren't coming out right on the forum, any ideas on that? ha

no you shouldnt have ti remove any thing
if its cracked you should be able to see it
i dont resize my pics
it cuts it off a bit but if anyone want to see them fully
copy it

the tray under the rear side window needs to have a hose that drains out thru the hole at the bottom of the plastic pannel
that it sits above
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)
