grease in the steering box ?

are there many reasons not to put a good quality grease ( + molybd) in the steering box instead of high viscosity oil ?

(reason for the question is the chronic incontinentia of the steering box )

Hey Geert,
I know some people that collect and restore Chevy Covairs and this method is done as a last resort when the steering box is "adjusted out". Meaning you can't get the slop out with the adjusting nut any more. Personally I think a new box would be in order since it is your life at stake! So yes, I've heard of it but do not recommend it. Others I'm sure will chime in with their reason for and against.

If the steering box leaks oil you can replace the seals, they are cheap. We seem to sell quite a lot of them, so it must be a common problem.

thanks for answering.

the reason for asking was
1/ in theory using a grease in a steering box could be logical ( I tought) ( no need for oil for heat transport, no deterioration ,easier to keep in the box... ( maybe there is some damping and therefor oil ?)
and
2/ a grease in used in Fords http://www.stangerssite.com/lubrication.html

but I'll guess the steering box will have to come out of the car

the corvair is not really a reference for roadholding and steering I guess.
