Re: floor padding
@baltobernbie: So if the foil is down (against the steel floor) does it stay put with adhesive? From what I can see, most of these products have a release paper with an adhesive pre-applied, so in those cases, the foil would have to be UP, regardless of what they instruct. Anyway, I am admittedly a "newbie" and (as usual) somewhat confused. At this point, it seems clear to me that the material should/must have: 1) a closed-cell material; best to repel absorption of water/coolant, (btw, went to start and warm the engine in storage this afternoon and the passenger side floor is a little damp. Hmmm....) 2.) pre-applied adhesive. 3.) some sort of foil, which will be installed UP to repel misc. water intrusion. As of right now, I think I will order this stuff:
http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-thermo ... nt_id=5513
Has anyone used it? I would be interested in comments. Price seems reasonable. Foil is obviously UP in their literature.

Re: floor padding
If you do a search using the keywords eastwood sound you should get to a thread about using the stuff.

FYI there is a $40 price difference depending on where you buy it. As well, they do not ship internationally

Re: floor padding
I went in between, also from yourautotrim.com but without the foil backing, just the "jute" filling at 3/8" thick
http://www.yourautotrim.com/jutecarpetpad.html
I sealed up the floorboards prior to the padding
check my thread "78 rolling restoration"

Re: floor padding
Hi Doc: What's up with that back seat? Looks like there is a story there.

Re: floor padding
Hi Doc,
The link goes to Thermozite, which I had thought about but which might be overkill on top of the Al-backed RoadBlockR (http://www.soundproofcow.com/sound-dead ... erial.html)
I've ordered; but the jute looks good as does the price:
How many square feet did you use?
I plan on using the RoadblockerR from firewall to rear bulkhead - sill to sill, then EZ-Cool Foam (http://www.lobucrod.com/) on the firewall, footwells, floors and transmission tunnel, then the jute, then the carpet, if I can ever choose one...
A CLD tile in each door, in each footwell, each floor pan, 2 under the trunklid, 1 on the trunk floor and 1 in each of the hood scallops.
Should all but negate the 32/36 I just got in the mail.
...If I could just choose a carpet.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: floor padding
Above link to the jute padding fixed!
Opus, I ordered 4 yards jute & had leftovers & got the "corn row" indoor/outdoor carpet from a local flooring store & cut my own, looks like the factory stuff.
You can use your old carpet for patterns or email me if you want the files for cutting the carpet that can be printed out full size by your local sign shop. don.raugust@yahoo.com
RRoller, I built a hidden storage are in place of my useless rear seat as a few others have done too.
Check out my build thread "78 rolling restoration" it shows what I did in some detail

Re: floor padding
That's a great idea! The rear is so useless, hardly would hold grocery bags. But I welcome it because it means no passengers (aka kids) come along on the drives with my wife!

Re: floor padding
I got the carpet templates from Don and used them to cut both the EZ Cool Insulation and Indoor/outdoor carpeting. For less than $100, I was able to replace the faded, threadbare red carpeting with a nice medium grey. The insulation did a good job reducing road noise inside the cabin... as good as it can for an old convertible.

Do you, by any chance, have those templates still? Are they computer files?
