I'm still shaking the bugs out on my carb issues and need to know if I can actually run a DMSA single port carb on my 1608 double port intake. For now, I just need to get her running and worry about performance later, which I plan to replace intake with a single port in time.
Will this set up work or am I just getting into more problems if I run it that way..
Thanks.
Can I run Single Port Carb on a '72 double port intake??

Likely yes it will be more trouble. What is wrong with the factory carb?

The primary throttle plate on the 34DMSa is larger in diameter, so you need to check that it does not foul the opening in the manifold.

Car never came with a carb when I first got it. I heard the original carbs for this year were not very good but a good replacement and easy hook up was the DMSA, so I purchased on and rebuilt it. I've read mixed stories of just hooking up the DMSA carb and it being fine, others say you need the single port intake. So I wanted to see if anyone here has had this experience.

Re: Can I run Single Port Carb on a '72 double port intake??
Ok this is a terminology/vocabulary misunderstanding. Csaba's guidance on the opening in the manifold is important as the early manifold has a nearly teardrop shaped opening versus an oval.
Both carbs are dual port carbs (they both have two venturi's or openings in the carb through which air flows and fuel is introduced). The early carbs used a dual plane intake which is not the best, the early carb used vacuum to open the secondary where the carb you have opens the secondary mechanically (a generally better approach less prone to problems).
So now that I understand what you have, you should be fine with this carb. It may not be entirely happy with the manifold you have (though I don't know for sure which manifold you do have). Do a search on the forum for single plane intake manifolds versus dual plane intake manifolds.
