Transmission Switch Question

Post by aj81spider »

My transmission has a couple of switches on it that can be seen in the picture:

I'm pretty sure the top one is the backup light switch. What is the one on the side?

Also my Brooklands manual talks about one on the rear that I haven't found yet.

Any insight would be appreciated.

The one one the rear (which is visible in the left side of your picture) should be the reverse-gear switch for the back up lights. The one on the side has something to do with detecting when the car is in 3rd and 4th gears, or something like that, for carburetor emission control settings during shifting. The one on top, I'm not familiar with, and haven't ever seen before.

The one on the top is for emissions as well, but it only installed for a few years.

Thanks for the answers. A PO ripped out all the emissions stuff so I guess the one in the back is the only one I should be really concerned with.
