15,500km ago when i rebuilt my engine I had the same problem, I simply took the heater-motor apart, put some wheel bearing grease on the shaft and bearings and it was good....until a week ago  now it is getting that tell-tale squeek on high speed when it is warmed up and I hit a bump...must be time to grease it again.

Lubing something is repairing/maintaining. If something needs lube then lube it. When a bearing has ran dry then lube it, if that doesn't work then replace it. The throw it away and get a new one mindset nowadays just has me shaking my head. It's not a wheel bearing so if it takes a krap I don't think any lives are in jeopardy  .

Shit Jim, you must be hemorrhaging money or maybe your wife has a trust fund and buys you lots of stuff  for the rest of us, we have to use our money wisely and this means maintaining things. To just throw away something that just needs a little love if one of societys biggest problems, how long can the world survive with that attitude?

djchan wrote:you really need to take it apart and examine it. If the fan runs well, it might not be the motor. It could be the fan shroud that has deformed alittle from the heat. Take it apart being careful not to lose the clips that hold the heater box up they tend to go flying. If it is the shroud file it down until it doesn't rub anymore.
This is certainly right. Normally if heat arises, we often check the motor but it is a good practice to check the fan first.

Who's the guy with a quiet fan and two thumbs? ME!
Lubed and reasembled, good to go. A little electrical lube and a good squirt of ZEP penitrating grease.
