34 ADF Tip

Post by johndemar »

If you have a 75 to 77 spider with a 32 ADFA that uses the throttle shaft spring retainer, I tried something today that actually worked out for me.

I was able to swap the primary throttle shaft from the 32 and put it in the 34. I was told the only way the 34 ADF would work on my 76 was to acquire linkage from a late 77 or 78 model that utilizes the rod and ball type of connection. This would also require me to replace the intake cam cover to hold the linkage, something I wasn't thrilled with. At first I just tried to put the lever and spring retainer on the 34 throttle shaft but discovered it wasn't long enough.

But the shaft from the 32 fit perfectly into the 34 and allowed me to keep the cable linkage. The 34 bolted right up, I adjusted the mix and idle and it started right up. I was a good day in the garage. :D

John, Good to hear you got that problem solved without too much switching of parts and linkages. Did you get to spin the wheels a bit with that bigger carb?

Now you need the venturi body from a 34 ADM, both venturies are 3mm bigger and it'll fit perfectly between your top and bottom.

Got the wheel spinning out of my system a long time ago. Besides with the 13's on it I have to preserve my Sumo's as long as possible. Still it does get up and go a bit more aggressively.

Mic, the 34ADF is a big carb capable of delivering a lot of fuel. Its been said by some in the know, more fuel than dual 40's. With bigger venturies, you will see reduced air velocity, and reduced torque. That 34ADM is for a 6 cylinder car.

I had one on my 2 litre, it was a significant improvement over the stock 34ADFA on the OZ 131s. But ours had reasonable compression, 9.3:1, and breathed pretty well to start with. I had mild cams and headers on it as well.
