1972 Replacement Speedometer Cable Problem

My cable has a kink in it that causes the speedometer to jump. No local shops could get me a replacement, so I ordered one from IAP. The length is correct, but the female end that screws into the transmission istoo small. Has anyone else had this problem?

Has anyone tried taking the end off the cable and swapping it out. I may try since I don't know what other options I have.

Call up IAP, maybe they sent the wrong one? Thats shitty!

I now noticed it doesn't fit at the speedometer, either. They put the rubber gasket for going through the floor on backwards. It I flip the cable around it works on both ends. I will call IAP on Monday.

I wasn't crazy about having a cavity for things to fall into, but thought I would just do that if IAP didn't have a solution. I called today and was told that occasionally that happens. He grabbed a few from the the warehouse, they were backwards, too. So he said he would call me back. About half an hour later, he calls back saying every cable they had was backwards. Then tells me that him and this other guy managed to use multiple hands and screwdrivers to lift the boot off and turn it around. I said my wife and I would do that on the one we had. He said don't bother, he is sending out the one they flipped
for no charge and not having me return the one I already had.

The cable was just one item in a bigger order, but I'm impressed with IAP's customer service!
