Texas Hillcountry drive a great success!

Post by vandor »

This past weekend I joined the Houston Fiat group on the fall Hillcountry drive. The drive always includes neat curvy roads and a fun time. As usual our base was the town of Wimberly, where Mike, our fearless leader, has a weekend house.
We met Saturday morning at a local cafe for breakfast. There were 8 Spiders, a 124 Coupe, and an X1/9 present.

After breakfast we went to see a local car guy's car collection, he had several AMCs, plus some other interesting machinery.
From there we went to Harris Hill Road roadcourse, a neat racetrack close to Austin. Bo, the manager is a Fiat guy, so he let us on the track for three different sessions! The last session was pretty quick, and Bo was nice enough to stop every couple of laps and put the faster cars toward the front (there was no passing allowed). It was great fun, I hope we'll go back next year.
After we were done Bo drove Jeff's Coupe and said it was the most powerful Fiat he has seen :-) Here are some videos of him driving on the track:

From there we went to the 'Oasis', a restaurant on a hilltop overlooking a lake. Great view with great food! After this very late lunch we went to a winery, which had a view of the valley below. We stayed until dark, then drove to a nearby town for dinner in a gourmet restaurant. This was another neat place, from the outside it looked like a place that might make a decent chicken fried steak, but it actually had the menu of a very nice/fancy restaurant.
Of course we talked our heads off about Fiats and everyone had a great time :-)

If not for work and other obligations would have really tried to be there. Of course mine isn't quit as pretty as the others. It is still in process of being transformed, I just cant stay out of it long enough to work on it. Glad ya"ll had a good time. Just keep me informed of whats going on . Did the wives come also because I would have a hard time leaving her at home. She really wanted to go down to the Hill Country.

Dennis,

We'll have a repeat in the spring, likely at the end of March. Yes, many significant others made the trip.
