Window fitment

Post by scampbel98 »

Are the side windows between years different size? I ask because i've got a 1980 that the passenger side fits perfectly on, but on the driver side the top of the window strikes the chrome of the rear side windows. I've massaged the window frame in the door and it's helped a bit, but i'm still different by about 1/4" clearance compared to the other side.

I'm pretty sure my car's had a bit of damage on the driver side and was thinking it had maybe had the glass replaced...

Can that rear chrome "riser" (part of the rear quarter window) be adjusted? or any thoughts to potentially having the wrong window in?

And before you ask, yes, the door is setup properly, centered, gaps correct etc...

There are window stops on the bolts that secure the Cables to the window. They are adjustable along with where the window
attaches to the cable. If you remove the door panel and reach up inbetween the glass and the outer door skin, you will be able to feel them. I had to do a little fiddling around with those two adjustments to get my glass where it wouldn't hit that trim.

I had to replace the window regulator on my 1980 Spider this past week end.
Had the same problem when I put it back together, the glass would catch on the chrome trim on the back glass.
Had to look at it for a few minutes to figure out the problem. The manual that I have does not go into the adjustment
details.
