Grittracing, My deepest heartfelt condolences to you. It will get better. Putting my wife in the spider is no problem. I can't hardly keep her out of it. I have to tell her it's broke so she will not let it stay in the shop. I use out of sight, out of mind. She will burn the town up in it, of course at 40 mph or less. Dennis

I think my husband is the luckiest man on earth (22 years and strong)!!! We are working on my Spider together & he is most excited about working on the engine & performance and I'm making it look nice!!! My last car was a Mini Cooper S Convertible and I drove that thing so fast - I only wish that my Spider could go that fast & handled as well. I'm just afraid that without a roll bar I'm going to end up like James Dean.

My sympathy to the husbands whose wives complain - not sure there is anything you can do about it other than compromise. Ugh - wives should support their husbands hobbies & interests and vice versa. My other "ugh" topic is when I hear that wives won't have sex.....a whole other topic but seriously.....not fair.....go get help!!!

Agree with DKPhotog... My fiancee was not "excited" about me buying a Fiat... then we took (the most expensive one) out for a test drive... she loved it and the people who "ooo'd and ahhh'd" at the car....

Now we go on big (or little? Groceries) road trips and she always wants me to drive it :-)

We've discussed the difference between "apparent" speed and "actual" speed, and she agreed it is because we sit sooo low to the ground
Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

PM me your email and we'll get something going long distance. Be gentle with me though, I'm very sensitive and don't want to be hurt.

My wife has a 2007 MINI Cooper S and loves it. She likes to drive the Alfa GTV but has a hard time managing the MGB. The seat is too low and raising her up gets her jammed against that huge steering wheel. Oh well nobody is perfect. Deb enjoyed driving my previous 124 Spider and is looking forward to the new one if it ever gets out of the shop. We just had our thirtieth wedding anniversary and are still newlyweds.

Well, tonight after a nice sea food dinner at our local cajan restaurant , about half way home the wife said it would be the last time she would ride in the spider. After she had two glasses of wine and I was crusing about 50 mph she said to me, get me home as fast as you can , so Im thinking alright babe will do. My 23 year old daughter was in what we call the back seat so off we go. Downshift to 3rd just before a nice S curve and run her on up. She handled beautifully and never squealed a tire . I finaly had to back off as my shoulder was starting to hurt from getting pounded . Oh but what fun we had. I have come to realise that these cars can take much more than most of us have the nerve to stay in them. I have drifted around corners before but tonight she was one with the road. Oh well, If I have to ride solo from now on so be it. I drive it 86 miles every day to and from work and have never owned a vehicle that I enjoy driving as much as this spider. Even with no AC. Top down and 68 deg, How much better can life get ?

I guess I am pretty lucky because my wife loves riding in the Spider. She comes with me to most Cruise Nights and we have a great time. I actually bought the Spider and mothballed the '71 Honda CB350 project so we would have an open air car to ride around in together. No complaints here. She is deathly afraid of flying though, so I have to figure out how the get the eventual New Zealand and Scotland trips in without air travel? A long slow boat ride maybe, but then, I hate cruises! LOL.

I bought my wife a motorcycle, but she didn't go for it - she felt as if she should have started riding at 20 years old, not in her 40's, and she didn't feel she had the right focus and concentration.

When I bought the Spider, as soon as she saw it, it was "her" Spider.

Go figure.

Well, my plan now is to let her drive while I accompany on my bike. Our son can take turns going with whoever he wants.

Not sure how I missed all this however, my wife loves our car. I think what the real turning point was when she drove it. Complete change of perspective from passenger to driver, not to mention the control factor. Best of luck with your marriage

Cajun food in Texas.

Suck it up Dennis. I've had my spider for 28 years of which the last 15 or so it has been undriven and un maintained. Coincidentally we will make our 15th anniversary this year. :x My wife dislikes the spider and will not let me fix it up. She Has asked me to sell it many times and i absolutely refuse. Don't get me started. And she complains constantly when I drive ANYTHING that I need to slow down. I have a bad habit of not looking at the speedometer when I drive. Nevermind that I havent gotten a speeding ticket in 20+years. And my wife doesn't like sex either.

Just be thankful you can drive and enjoy your spider with or without the wife.
