Re: carb/manifold
yes that will release the tention of that spring.
youll wamt to loosen all the tention you can before un bolting that
its rare to find a car with that shield still on
most people remove them and leave them off
they were ment to keep dirt out
but yours looks like it ws there to keep dirt in
remove the boltsfo the tentioner and deal with the spring

Re: carb/manifold
Ensure the nut holding the tensioner bearing is tight before attempting to remove the spring, you don't want to be chasing valve timing on top of your current workload.

Re: carb/manifold
i got it off. the dust cover had a slot as to slip behind that bolt, so i just loosen it and finally manage to get it off then the intake slipped off

Re: carb/manifold
Spacer can also help keep the gas in the carb from boiling due to engine heat.fiat218 wrote:what is the purpose of adding the spacer between the carb and manifold? and how do u know the size to get

Re: carb/manifold
You can just plug the fuel return line and the hose that ran to the charcoal canistor, and distributor vacuum goes to the vacuum port on the carburetor, just above the idle mix screw. You may want to drill a small hole in your gas cap so the fuel tank doesn't develop a vacuum. I just finished this conversion on one of my cars this last weekend.

Re: carb/manifold
Anytime. When you finish your conversion, let me know what you think of the performance, like acceleration, torque etc and we'll compare notes.
Re: carb/manifold
Instead of plugging the charcoal canister, just let the hose hang so it can breathe, it's the vent for the tank. I also drilled the small hole just below the cap in the fill tube.
