yes i remove one hose and loosen the end on the rad to spin it up and re tighten.use a bucket.
remove bolts 10mm and the coverbolts 13mm and 17mm for the tenstioner but turn the motor first.
i had to hold up the cover to memorize where the 10degree mark is

You believe it's off or you've checked it and you know it's off. A lot of wasted time and effort if you pull it apart without confirming your valve timing is wrong.jrg05a wrote:Alright everyone, I believe my timing is off.

Check for 12 volts at your idle solenoid if you have the stock carb. And check for vacuum leaks.
I had a 79 in the shop not long ago with the exact same symptons, it was a vacuum leak on the gulp valve hose, and one on the brake booster vac hose, replaced hoses and it ran great. If it ran fine before you spilled some oil on it, you have a simple problem.
