Replacing fuel lines to tank

Post by burlybryan »

Do I have to drain the tank down? The lines come in near the mid point of the tank and I'm wondering if I should siphon off some fuel. Thanks.

Aren't the lines on the top? If so, you don't have to. I think you have one that's low on the corner. If your going to replace that line, make sure the fuel is below the nipple.

thanks. there are lines near the top, but the supply to the pump appears to come out near the middle of the spherical tank. The tank projects up in the trunk well and below and the lines come in near the bottom of the visible tank in the trunk.

I'm trying to chase a loss of fuel pressure while the car sits overnight and starting with maintenance stuff like lines and filter.

Brady The fi tanks have nipples about tank mid height.

If the gas level is below a half a tank you should be okay. Other wise just get 1/2 & 5/16 vacuum plugs and plug the nipples when you remove the hoses in the trunk.

If you want to get some fuel out of the tank just disconnect the inlet hose to the fuel pump, and put it in a gas can.
Gravity should drain the fuel from the tank to the gas can.
As stated, if the tank is less than half full, you should be fine. Either way, be prepared to swap hoses quickly, in case the fuel level is higher than you thought :-)

Thanks. I drained off about 5 gallons via removing a return line parallel the pump. There's a little rise in the lines from the tank to the pump and return meaning I'll have to drive it (or siphon more off). Got all the lines replaced forward of the pump though.
