Still working on the ruff cold idle and I pulled the aux air regulator. Cleaned the devil out of it with 2 cans of carb spray! When heated up it closes but when I tossed it in the fridge for a few hours it only opens up to a very small pie shaped wedge. Sooooo. How far open is open? Should I spray some light lube in it? Lastly, what the heck is that hump/housing it's bolted to? I am not gonna' lose this battle with the poor idle!
Thanks all!
Aux air regulator. How big does it open?
Re: Aux air regulator. How big does it open?
they don't open very much, remember it's just an air bypass around the throttle plate
Re: Aux air regulator. How big does it open?
Good info on diagnosing, adjusting and cleaning the aux air valve in the last part of Section 4 of this guide:

Yea, got a copy of that guide. Still got a little fluctuation in cold idle. TTS is a bear to get to or I'd just replace that sucker. LOL!
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

Someone who should know once told me that the Auxiliary Air Regulator valve from older Nissans would work on FI Fiats. So Cal Mark wrote:they don't open very much, remember it's just an air bypass around the throttle plate
Does anyone here happen to know what model(s)/year(s) Nissan parts I should be looking for? Also, is it a Bosch part?

Re: Aux air regulator. How big does it open?
The opening of the AAV is less than the diameter of a pencil, but triangular shaped, so it's not a big opening.
You can check whether the TTS is working by putting a noid light in the plug at the cold start valve. On a cold start the light should come on and stay on for maybe 6-8 seconds. If you don't have one, a noid light can be borrowed at Autozone or other stores with a tool loaner program.
Check very closely for a fuel leak; injectors (including the cold start valve), fuel rail to pressure regulator, fuel pump, filter, etc. If there's a leak it's bleeding off the necessary pressure the injectors need to spray properly. This shows up in poor idling.

Thanks. No fuel leaks found or smelled. I have cleaned and checked the AAV and it is open the right amount when cold and closed completely when hot.So the extra air during warm-up seems OK.rlux4 wrote:The opening of the AAV is less than the diameter of a pencil, but triangular shaped, so it's not a big opening.

But, as to the extra fuel on warm-up, the voltage across the TTS connector is 12 when cranking but drops to zero immediately when the engine starts (this is with the engine stone cold). Wouldn't these results be the same with a "noid light?"
If the TTS is the problem, it looks like a bear to replace, but maybe not that expensive. I Suppose I should check for the cold start valve actually spraying anyway. I might also open the air by-pass screw on the AFM a bit, since I discovered it was completely closed.
