It depends on the condition of the bores. Has it been bored before. Your allowed 1 mm oversize. Take it to a machine shop to have the bores checked. .4mm and .8mm oversize sets are available. It would cost too much to ship so you would have to find a local buyer.

The 1608's are good engines. The bore is "square" 80mm diameter by 80mm stroke. They came stock with 9.8:1 CR but you will need a 1608 or 1438 head to top it off.

Here is where to look:

Here is what to compare to:

Also in Brad Artigue's guides there is some information near the beginning in the "identifying what you have" section.

I know of the fiat you speak of with the green interior, but can't remember who's it was. Its surly a unique color. That green was a stock color, but pretty rare and you don't see the upholstery pieces often, if at all. But it can be done. You will either need to buy a bunch of light colored upholstery pieces and paint them all with green vinyl paint, or purchase a bunch of green vinyl and have a shop sew up the pieces to cover all your existing interior components. And yes, starting with a lighter color like beige or white will make the green show better. I don't see any reason why painting the pieces white prior to painting them green won't work, just make sure you prep the pieces well and the light base color and green top coat are compatible/the same type of paint.

I love 1608s, but the US version only had 8.5:1 CR, not 9.8:1.

Also somebody mentioned 110 Hp. That was the Euro version with twin IDF Webers. The US model was rate at 104 gross HP, or 94 net Hp. Still not bad from a 100 cu.in. engine!

Did someone mention a green interior?

When I got my Spider from Calif it had this interior. I'm sure this was a custom job by some PO, probably around 2000 or so. My seller didn't know. Matt I've never heard of a stock green Spider interior, but I'd love to see one if they were ever produced. I know mine is a custom job because the vinyl was stiched then glued to the consoles.

There was no boot with the car. The radio console was all chopped up. I found a company in Toronto that would custom match my color and package a quart of it in aerosol cans. I dyed a used boot and used radio console to match. Both were black to start.

I asked him if I’d get better results starting with a light colored vinyl. He specifically said that black vinyl makes the best base. He said lighter vinyl would take much more paint to cover. He was right and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

The one key to vinyl dyeing is to be sure the vinyl is completely cleaned of all contamiation particularly any silicones from the spray on cleaners and so forth. The dye company sold me a pretty expensive cleaner that worked good after I scrubbed the vinyl repeatedly with soap and hot water. Alcohol or mineral spirits would probably work too.
