My car is a 1975 although I recently discovered the engine block is a 1977. In any case it is a 1800 cc engine. I am in the process of putting it all back together after pulling the head to fix several leaks (coolant and oil). Now the question is ... should I look to replace the Facet after-market electric fuel pump with another electric one (such as the Carter GP4600HP) or go with a mechanical one such as the 4434836 FIAT SPIDER FUEL PUMP 74-78 124 & COUPE listed on the Fiat Parts Warehouse? Oh ... I am installing a brand new 32/36 DFEV carburetor. I know that electric fuel pumps are designed to be best at pushing fuel vs. pulling and therefore are best located near and below the fuel tank but there are no brackets or wiring near my fuel tank. Would I be better off with a mechanical one ?? Your ideas and recommendations would be appreciated.

Original fuel lines have all been replaced. Is it better to have an engine bay located electric fuel pump or a mechanical driven one ? I have a 32/36 DFEV on a 1800 manifold?

For me, I too run a mechanical, original pump. Tis simple, easy to plumb in, and they work wonderfully, no added wires, switches, things to go wrong.
If you are going to run an electric pump, the ideal location is near the tank, as low as you can get it.
Why not just run what it came with?? Make your life easy.

Re: Mechanical or Electric Fuel Pump?
The PO of my 79 had an electric mounted under the hood. When I bought it, it had an intermittent sputtering problem that mostly happened up hills. I figured that I'd need to put in a new carb, but when I put back on a stock mechanical pump, it fixed the problem. My theory is it just didn't "suck" enough. Of course that's not stopping me from replacing that ADHA with as 32/36 DFEV....
