low rpm low power
low rpm low power
In need of suggestions. Recently rebuilt engine and carb. Engine starts and when warm settles into an idle. No power until about 3000rpm and then runs nicely. When starting to move, the engine surges but at or about 3000rpm the surge is gone and runs smoothly. suggestions?

I believe the springs are good because it ran better before some of this work. I set the timing with a light and then advanced the timing by ear. I didn't take it as far as it would go before sputtering so maybe I just need to keep going. What do you think? psg
Re: low rpm low power
How does it idle?? The idle/low speed jet is very commonly plugged on these, yes, even after a rebuild. Then they idle poorly, accel like crap, and are generally miserable to drive till you get em really wound up.
Re: low rpm low power
It starts a little cold and takes a bit to settle into an idle but when it does I can take it down to abt 500rpm and it holds its own. Not sure if that answers your question.
Another question has anyone repaired a main crank seal without removing the engine out of the car...can it be done? When the engine was put back together I think something isn't right. I am afraid this is going to be classified as an oil spill. psg

Re: low rpm low power
It is an 1800 and I am really surprised by the leak I am experiencing. I know I am a shade tree mechanic but...
So which is more the pain, pulling the engine and working on it standing up or dropping those pieces and being on my back.........? psg

Re: low rpm low power
i would pull it,if not just to clean it all up and get repaired
but to inspect all areas.like the clutch,starter,cables.hoses... and the body.
i need room to work and all my stuff in the garage makes it imposible to do a motor.
