Door Rattle

Hi,

My car impresses me with its rigidity and lack of door sag and slop but, there's a nagging little rattle of the passenger door, which closes nicely enough, that I imagine is just a matter of fettling the latch and probably lugs: Is there a scheme or protocol for setting the lugs and latch correctly?

You can get inside your door without taking it off. It can be the window tracking either on the sides or the wire track on the bottom of the door that is rattling. Maybe one of those bolts are loose. There are two bolts on the bottom of the door that tighten the wire track. Try them first before taking it apart. Otherwise take off the door panel to see inside. The window track has a bolt at the bottom and top. You can get to them through the existing holes behind the panel. If it's not that, then check out your handle inside to see if the linkage is good. Are you going to the meeting this Sunday?

Thanks. It's not the windows or linkage, not on that side anyway, it's the door being loose, even though it shuts well.

No on Sunday, unfortunately. Water leak from an apparently stripped heater pipe stud.
Won't be fixed until next weekend...

If nothing else, this car is preparing me for my future ex-wife.

The door alignment lugs are a must for these cars. New door weatherstripping also keeps the door from rattling by keeping pressure on it.

Door gaskets will be on the next VAS order, I've still to get the last onto the car.

Fortunately I can't do a parts car, for the same reason I can't do certain work myself: Apartment dweller.

Until I bought this car I had no need of a house, now I'm looking to rent a garage and a workshop.
